Take a day tour to Jericho and Bethlehem. Drive through the Dead Sea to arrive at Jericho and view Mt. Temptation, continue on to Bethlehem and walk across Manger Square to arrive at the Church of Nativity.
Jericho is over 11,000 years old and considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Archaeologists have discovered over 20 settlements in Jericho. The houses used to be built round around a central courtyard, and made out of mud brick. Archaeologists have found artifacts that date back to the Bronze Age and the Stone Age. There are 2 ancient synagogues in Jericho that have very beautiful mosaics still intact.
Bethlehem is home to the Church of Nativity, with its original mosaic floor. Bethlehem is where the Christians make their pilgrimage to every year at Christmas.
Drive down towards the Dead Sea passing the Inn of the Good Samaritan. We will stop for a brief time at the sea level marker, and continue to Jericho. Above Jericho you will be able to see Mt. Temptation where Jesus fasted for 40 nights. Travel to Bethlehem to the birthplace of Jesus. Take a walk across Manger Square to the Church of Nativity. See the beautiful original mosaic floor from the 4th century under the one that was constructed in the 6th century. Tour the Crusader Church, that is dedicated to St. Catherine, and go down the grotto where the Hebrew bible was translated into Latin by St. Jerome. In Bethlehem we will pass the milk grotto and go to Shepherd's Fields. From here we will start the journey back.
