Marvel over Iceland’s most iconic attractions and some of its best-kept secrets on this incredible Super Jeep tour. This trip combines sightseeing around the famous Golden Circle and its nearby unique locations, and relaxation, within the gorgeous waters of the Secret Lagoon.
Your day will start when you are picked up in Reykjavík from 08:00 AM. The Super Jeep you will be travelling in has a limited number of seats, ensuring that your tour will be personal and comfortable.
The first stop is the fascinating Þingvellir National Park. Here, you can stand on, walk down, and explore the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, as the park is situated in the valley of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Nowhere else in the world is this rift so visible, making for beautiful and dramatic scenery.
Þingvellir is also steeped in history. It was here that early Icelandic settlers formed a representative parliament in 930 AD, which continues to this day in Reykjavík. This makes it the original site of the world’s longest-running continuous parliament, earning it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The next destination is the Geysir geothermal area. Hot springs, mud pools and fumaroles dot the area, but it is most renowned for its two geysers, Geysir and Strokkur. The former, which gave all others their name, is largely inactive these days; the latter, however, reliably erupts every ten minutes or so, blasting water up to 40 metres (131 ft) into the air.
The third stop of the Golden Circle is Gullfoss, an awe-inspiring waterfall on the Hvíta river. Driven by glacial meltwater, it pours down two tiers into a stunning, ancient canyon. You can approach this waterfall right to its edge when the ground is not icy, allowing you to marvel at its incredible power.
With the popular sites of the world-famous Golden Circle complete, it is time to find some lesser-known locations. The first of these will be the crater lake Kerið. This fascinating site is surrounded by vivid orange and red rock, which contrasts beautifully with the turquoise waters that fill it year-round.
Next, you will head to a stunning fjord named Hvalfjörður. Though the whales that once made it famous no longer frequent its waters, its surroundings, with fascinating rock formations and picturesque moors, are by far captivating enough.
Once all these sightseeing locations have been enjoyed, it is time to unwind. There are few, if any, better places to do this in the country than in the divine waters of the Secret Lagoon. This mystical place, hidden in a steaming geothermal area, will take your breath away, and basking in it will ease any tenseness built up over your vacation.
Don’t let this incredible day of adventure and relaxation pass you by. Jump aboard to see many of Iceland’s greatest sights.
