Head out from Prague on a private day tour to visit Konopiste Chateau, once the private residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, and the Gold Museum in Novy Knin. Enjoy a tasty traditional lunch and conclude your tour with a visit to the famous Karlstejn Castle.
Start your tour by heading out of Prague at 9 AM on a 45-minute drive in a private air-conditioned minivan through the landscape of central Bohemia. Arrive at Konopiště Chateau and explore the residence of the successor to the emperor of Austria-Hungary, who was assassinated in 1914 in Sarajevo, marking the beginning of WWI.
Afterwards continue on to visit the city of Nový Knín, known for it's gold mining days and for being a permanent settlement that dates back to the 9th century. The estimated yield of the mines was around 1 kilogram of gold per ton of rock. One of the last attempts to restore the mines was at the end of the WWII. Visit the gold museum that chronicles the town’s history. The museum is located in a historical building, and its exhibits focus on the history of the mining and refining of gold.
For lunch, we will go to a typical Czech restaurant U Mikolasku near the gold museum.
The tour continues on to the town of Karlštejn, where you’ll ride a horse-drawn carriage to the castle. After exploring the most famous Czech castle, you will see a small town with many small souvenir shops.
Then we go on our way back to Prague.
