Annapurna base camp trek is one of the famous trek among the trekkers. Annapurna Mountain also known as Morshiadi is the tenth highest mountain in the whole world, standing tall at 8,091m. The majestic mountain is located on the Annapurna massif in north-central region of this beautiful Himalayan country Nepal.
After the successful first expedition done in 1950, over the decades this mountain region has been one of the favorites to trek for mountaineers and Annapurna Base Camp Trek has become the idyllic choice for trekking in Nepal, for serious mountaineers and trekking enthusiasts alike. Annapurna 1 is known as one of the most dangerous mountains to climb.
Along with Annapurna 1, the tenth highest peak in the world, the mighty Annapurna Himalayan Range consists of thirteen other peaks higher than 8000m and 16 other peaks over the height of 7000m. The Base Camp trek provides the trekkers with the once in a life time opportunity to gaze at the western Himalayans of Nepal such as Himchuli, Annapurna south, Annapurna 3 and Gangapurna among others.
Day 01: Drive to Pokhara (6 hrs)
After breakfast, we will travel to scenic city of Pokhara via Prithvi Highway. The beautiful bus ride will be approximately 6 hours long. We can see luscious green hills, dwindling rivers and faraway Himalayans on our way. Pokhara will serve as our gateway to the Annapurna Region. We can travel around this beautiful lake city in the evening, Transfer in Pokhara hotel on the lake side.
Day 02: Pokhara to Tikhe Dhunga (4-5 hrs)
We will drive from Pokhara to Nayapul which will be few hours along. From there we will walk through an easy route along the banks of beautiful Modi Khola and Modi Khola River Valley to reach the ancient village of Birethanti, which is a very old trading route of Nepal and Tibet. On reaching Tikhe Dhunga we well rest for the day and have a nice meal at a local inn.
Day 03: Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani. (5-6 hrs)
We will now continue uphill to reach the popular tourist destination of Ghorepani. We will cross a stream and then ascend through steer staircase of stones to reach Ulleri (2,070 m) first. It is a Magar village. We will then walk through the enchanting rhododendron forests and oak forests and cross small streams to reach Nangethanti. From there, we will trek for around 3 hours to reach Ghorepani (2,850). We can go for sightseeing here, once we have rested.
Day 04: Ghorepani- Poon Hill to Tadapani: (5-6hrs)
We will wake up early in the morning to reach Poonhill to catch the magnificent sunrise on mountains. We will trek to Poonhill which is a beautiful hill situated at height of (3,195m). the sunrise from here is truly magical as the sight of orange light shining on silver mountains is heavenly. We can also have great view of Annapurna I (8019m), and Manalsu (8156m) and Dhaulagiri 1 (8,167m) among others. In addition to that, we can also see the Nepal-Tibet border, 6000m deep gorge of Kali Gandaki. We will descend after some time to Ghorepani to have breakfast. From Ghorepani, we will descend once again through the beautiful forests to arrive at the village of Banthanti, from where we will finally go towards Tadapani.
Day 05: Tadapani to Chhomrung: (4-5 hrs)
On midday we will arrive to Chhomrung walking through the oak and rhododendron forests once again. We will stop in this Gurung village for delicious Gurung palette. We can go for a short walk to explore this highest permanent settlement in the region.
Day 06: Chhomrung to Dovan or Himalaya Hotel. (4-5 hrs)
We will now descend through stone staircase which will be relatively easy and then cross the cold Chhomrung Khola. Today along with rhododendron and oak forests, we will also walk through tall bamboo forests. We will ascent mostly throughout the day to reach Kuldi. From here, we will descend through the steep stone staircase to reach Dovan.
Day 07: Dovan to Annapurna Base Camp (Sanctuary). (7-8 hrs)
Today we will ascent up from Dovan. The trial climbs high above the river, on lateral moraine, also down the other side to the glacier. We will trek up the bank or bed of glacier and then reach our destination Annapurna Base Camp (4,237m). From here, we get outstanding views of the regal Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna 1, Annapurna south, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli and. The vegetation now gradually disappears on our way uphill to ABC and the path widen as we reach the Annapurna sanctuary. We are rewarded with astounding views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna looming above us. We again get to relish mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South , Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.
Day 08: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo. (6-7 hrs)
We will begin the day early today for a small ascent to witness another mesmerizing sunrise. The trek to Bamboo today will be downhill so it will be comparatively easy. Besides, the beautiful landscape will keep us company throughout. Overnight stay in Bamboo.
Day 09: Bamboo to Chhomrung. (5-6 hrs)
We will trek uphill from Bamboo to Kuldi and then downhill walk along the Chhomrung Khola. We will climb the steep stone steps to Chommrung and then descend to Jhinu Danda. We can have the experience of enjoying bath in natural hot spring. From Sinuwa, the trail is downhill to Modi Khola. We will call it a day with a steep climb to Chhomtrung.
Day 10: Chhomrung to Ghandrung ( 5 to 6 hrs.)
After having delicious breakfast at Chhomrung, we will big goodbye to the beautiful valley of Modikhola and lead towards Kim Rung Khola. We will walk through rural mountain villages and reach Kim Rung Khola. From there, we will trek towards the famous gurung village of Ghandruk, which is famous for its beauty and ambience.
Day 11: Ghandrung to Pokhara (4 hours)
After our breakfast, we will trek for three hours downhill to reach Birethati. We will stop for a short break in a local tea house. From there, after walking for half an hour we will reach Nayapul and from there catch a bus to Pokhara.
