In the main season (October-April) we're offering Trekking Tours in the Simien Mountains with fixed departure dates. In this way people will join other hikers and can share the costs with more people.
The Simien Mountains lie in northern Ethiopia, North-East of Gondar. They are a World Heritage Site and include the Simien Mountains National Park. The mountains consist of plateaux separated by deep valleys and rising to pinnacles.
Because of their geological origins the mountains are almost unique, with only South Africa's Drakensberg having been formed in the same manner and thus appearing similar. Notable animals in the mountains include the Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboon and the Ethiopian wolf.
The National Park offers exceptional trekking opportunities and this one here includes the most green and beautiful part in the area between the famous campsites Sankaber, Gich and Chenek.
These tours are leaving from Gondar twice in a week, every Wednesday and every Saturday morning at 7:30 AM, for 4 days / 3 nights. So the return to Gondar is on Saturday and Tuesday respectively, at about 5 PM.
Day 1: GONDAR - DEBARK - SANKABER (3,250m)
After a quick stop for the formalities at the head quarter offices and for collecting cook and scouts we will drive out on a rough road to Sankaber from where we will take a short walk of 2-3 hours, depending on our available time, to assist the acclimatization process. We will get a first impressive view over the dramatic mountains range. First night in the tents at the Sankaber camp.
Day 2: SANKABER (3,250m) - GICH (3,600m)
Day 3: GICH (3,600m) - CHENEK (3,620m)
Day 4: CHENEK (3,620m) - BWAHIT (4,430m) - CHENEK - GONDAR
