The Gobustan Museum of Petroglyphsis locates towards the south-east of the Great Caucasus mountain range. The museum exhibits rarest prehistoric rock drawings, petroglyphs, on the mountain ridge. It significantly allows you to get acquainted with life-style and activities of people from late Ice Age through representation of stone carvings. Additional to the museum, there are mud volcanoes. It is commonly accepted Azerbaijan bears significant number (some argue half of the total mud volcano in the world) of mud volcanoes exists in the world. The most significant feature of the Gobustan mud volcanoes is that mud/clay and sometimes mixed with methane gas erupts continuously over a long period of time. The specifically under-pressurized eruption allows visitors observe eruption of volcano in a closer distance right at the top of mud cone.
