Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route 6 Day Trek

  • No booking or credit card fees
  • Best Price Guarantee
  • Free cancellation

Marangu Route is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut. Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut.

Geography and Altitude

Mount Kilimanjaro is situated in the Northern part of Tanzania, in the Kilimanjaro National Park. It covers an area of 100 kilometers long and 65 kilometers wide.

The mountain is a dormant volcano which is comprised of three volcanic cones, Shira, Kibo (on which Uhuru summit stands) and Mawenzi.

Kibo is classified as dormant but not extinct. The last major eruption from Kibo occurred 360,000 years ago. The last volcanic activity happened 200 years ago and resulted in today’s ash pit (visible from Uhuru Peak)

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world. By free-standing, or non-massif, we mean it is not part of a mountain range.

The summit on Mount Kilimanjaro is called Uhuru Peak and stands at 5,895m or 19,341 feet. To put this in perspective, Mount Everest, stands at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) – just over 2,950 meters higher.

Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most fascinating adventures in Africa. Following the trails of Kilimanjaro gives you a unique chance to explore the local wildlife, high-altitude camps open incredible panoramic vistas, and the culmination of your expedition - victorious photos on Uhuru Peak - instills a sense of the Great Achievement.

Carefully preserved by Tanzania National Park Authority, Kilimanjaro is one of the few mounts in the world on which the civilization exercised minimal to zero impact. The jungles and the rocks of Kilimanjaro are still in the same state as witnessed by the first European explorers in the XIX century.

Kilimanjaro hiking is one-of-a-kind holiday, excellently befitting a family vacation, graduation trip, meeting of old friends, a team-building journey for your team, a reunion of the army comrades or a honeymoon.Nature Bound Africa is one of the leading Kilimanjaro guiding services. All our climbs are comfortable, immersive, safe and successful.
